July-Ku! Keep checking back (regularly) for new stuff.
I'm gonna TRY to stay within the season this time. And, y'know, read/comment on a daily basis. :] Write on. 3. The collective noun for rainbow trout is "hover." 4. African dragonfly (anax speratus). 7. Gypsy moths are attracted to oak trees, which, over time, can develop 'gold dust' lichen. But when certain areas become dense, and the moths have destroyed too many trees, chemical pesticides are used for productive thinning. (Enjambment edit on the 20th.) 10. Changed from: smoke rings / my finger, cool / menthol breath 12. Two alcoholic drinks are 'hidden' here. Can you find 'em? 14. Inspired by Forest Eyes - Thank you *mcdermid for featuring this photograph! 21. North American dragonfly (celithemis fasciata). 24. "Perching bird" actually comes from the scientific passeriformes and (near) passerines. In other words: the pigeon/dove family. Thank you ~silverwingsoffire for such valuable information! 25. Type of local moth that decided to land on a Chinese calendar we have by the door. "Shanxi" is the title picture for July/August. See my comment exchange with ~totipotent [below] for more details. 26. Researching the previously mentioned moth, I found its cousin, the Pawpaw Sphinx. Neat name, neutral color pattern. And in this case, "overwinter" means "to lie dormant." 28. Fox News on mute. Orly. 31. On the road yesterday, I noticed a blue truck with two contradictory stickers, side-by-side on its back windshield: the Virgin Mary and the (classic American) Mudflap Girl silhouette. It should speak volumes about modern society. FINALLY - 2 days late, somewhat rushed...but satisfied. Congrats to everyone who participated. Hope to see ya next time around! |

I like that you don't quite bring the mockingbird's cries into the poem until the very end. It makes you wonder if they might be guilty of some other crime until you shed the light on it.
